Elliott's Bakery& Cafe

The baker, Dale, served his apprenticeship at the Port Elliot bakery before taking the business on close to two decades ago, and now runs it six days a week with a crew of more than a dozen. Cabinets carry the full country repertoire, from pies and pasties to sturdy loaves and rolls, but the reputation rests on the pastry work: flaky custard tarts, vanilla slice and a rotating run of sweets baked through the morning. It reads as an unfussy, high-volume operation, yet the consistency is what regulars and passing travellers single out.
