On the winding road up to Lamington National Park, a steep block on the slopes of Mount Roberts has been terraced with soil left over from post-cyclone road repairs, the plants set out on reclaimed pallets with views running down across the Lost World Valley. Dave and Shionagh grow Australian native plants here with a strong lean toward bush tucker and the flora of South East Queensland, including hard-to-source species like scrambling lily, and rate their native raspberries among the highlights. A shipping container fitted out as a shop sells Shionagh's pottery alongside jewellery, garden art and candles, and passing wallabies are a regular feature of a visit. It's open weekends only, a deliberate pace that suits a nursery more interested in propagating rare natives than shifting stock fast. Worth timing a Lamington National Park day trip around, on the Canungra side of the range.
