New South WalesLancers Memorial Museum

시드니, NSW

The regimental museum of the 1st/15th Royal New South Wales Lancers, begun in 1957 in a single room within Lancer Barracks and later given its own building. It holds uniforms, some dating from the nineteenth century, along with equipment, saddlery, weapons, photographs, paintings, banners and trophies, including the kettle drums used when the Regiment's Band was horsed and the King's Banner awarded for South African War service. Outside stand vehicles that once equipped the Regiment, among them a Matilda tank, a Bren Gun carrier, a Staghound armoured car, a Ferret scout car and a Centurion.

Its home, Linden House, is a two-storey sandstone building completed by 1828 and once used by the School of Industry. It was moved stone by stone from Macquarie Street and dedicated in 1981 as a memorial to Lancers who served from the South African War onward. The museum is run by an association of former members. It opens most Sundays, with the last Sunday of each month a Tank Day.
