Set atop Mount Scott in Geraldton, this national memorial commemorates the loss of HMAS Sydney II and her 645 crew on 19 November 1941. Initiated by the Rotary Club of Geraldton in 1998 and designed by Joan Walsh-Smith and Charles Smith of Smith Sculptors, it was dedicated in November 2001, with the Eternal Flame lit sixty years to the day after the sinking. Recognised as a National Memorial in 2009.
