TOOWOOMBA & DARLING DOWNS, QUEENSLAND

At the highest point of Picnic Point Parklands, on the eastern edge of Toowoomba where the Great Dividing Range escarpment falls away toward the Lockyer Valley. A long, curved retaining wall acts as a promenade for taking in the distant views, with a directional plaque on a stone plinth, seating, and manicured lawns and gardens around it. The reserve traces back to 1885, when it was declared for the recreation of the growing town, and a cafe-restaurant overlooks the escarpment beside short scenic bushwalks through the surrounding parkland.
