Gold was struck on Spring and Reids Creek in 1852, and the old diggings still thread through the dry forest and granite gorge of this Parks Victoria reserve outside Beechworth. Prospecting for gold with hand tools is permitted in designated areas under a Miner's Right, following creeks once crowded with hopeful miners. A twelve-kilometre network of tracks runs through the Gorge, past mining relics, water races and the sluiced ground of one of Victoria's richest early goldfields.
