Know before you go. Access is 4WD only, out past Oodnadatta and a long way from anywhere — Witjira sits about 887km north-west of Port Augusta. You need a vehicle entry pass, or a Desert Parks Pass if you are taking in more of the desert parks. The main pool is over 160m long and nearly 12m deep; the water rises at about 42°C and sits around 36–38°C where you get in, so it is a warm soak rather than a cooling one.
