South of Adelaide River in Tjuwaliyn (Douglas) Hot Springs Park, a thermal river runs hot from the ground - in places too hot to enter - and mixes with cool creek water downstream into a run of soothing pools among the paperbarks. Bathers find their preferred temperature by moving up or down the sandy stream. The site is deeply significant to the Wagiman people, its hottest reaches set aside as sacred and off-limits. A shaded campground sits beside the water. It is one of the finest natural thermal soaks in the Territory, at its best in the cooler dry-season months.
