Run by a Dharug Aboriginal social enterprise on the western edge of Sydney, this production nursery grows several hundred thousand plants a year from a large indigenous seed bank, propagating locally provenanced natives specific to the Cumberland Plain. It is the only accredited Aboriginal-run nursery in New South Wales, and staff work as readily with home gardeners restocking a native border as with landcare groups after bulk stock for revegetation. Beyond the plants, Muru Mittigar folds in training and employment programs in natural resource management, using the nursery as a working site for skills as much as a retail operation. Open weekdays for walk-in customers, closed weekends. For anyone in Sydney's west after locally indigenous plants — or wanting to buy from a nursery actually invested in the country the plants come from — it is a genuine destination rather than a generic garden centre.
