Fifty kilometres south of Streaky Bay on the Calca Peninsula, a clifftop viewing area faces one of the few protected colonies of the Australian sea lion — a species found in no other country, and among Australia's most endangered marine mammals. This is the only place on the mainland where pups can be watched learning to swim and play in the water below; binoculars improve the spectacle considerably. The park is reached by road via Sceales Bay or Calca. Entry is free, and dogs are not permitted.
