On the Tasman Peninsula south-east of Hobart, the Three Capes Track is one of Australia's great multi-day coastal walks, threading the tops of the highest sea cliffs in the country. Over several days walkers follow well-built path and boardwalk toward Cape Pillar and Cape Hauy, where dolerite columns drop hundreds of metres sheer to the Southern Ocean, staying in comfortable huts along the way. Sculptural seats and lookouts punctuate the route, and the sense of exposure above the swell is exhilarating. Booked and capped to protect the track, it is a walk of world stature within reach of the capital.
