Inside the Mossman Gorge Aboriginal community, on the edge of the World Heritage-listed Daintree, Kuku Yalanji artists work in ceramic and screen-printing studios open to visitors. The output is handcrafted ceramics, printed textiles and works on paper carrying motifs like the Kurriyala carpet snake and Nguya freshwater turtle, designs drawn from deep knowledge of the rainforest and reef Country that surrounds the centre. A wholly Aboriginal-owned enterprise, it lets travellers watch the making rather than just buy the result.
