Jimmy Shu, born in Sri Lanka to Chinese parents, ran restaurants in Melbourne until a trip north to source barramundi convinced him Darwin needed a proper Thai restaurant. Hanuman was the result, now on Mitchell Street, cooking a mix of Thai, Nonya and Tamil food that suits the city. The oysters under terracotta caps, scented with lemongrass and basil, have followed Shu since his Melbourne years. Tables run between the dining room and a covered terrace.
