A freshwater lake and the limestone ridge to its west anchor this City of Cockburn reserve at Hamilton Hill, part of Beeliar Regional Park and a short drive south of Fremantle. Manning Lake and its surrounding wetland areas hold significant flora and fauna, while the grassed picnic grounds carry barbecues, shelters, play equipment and open space enough for community events and wedding parties. It is a modest, well-used piece of the coastal plain — wetland on one side, ridge on the other — and one of the closest stands of bushland to Fremantle's southern suburbs.
