Purpose-built on the Gibb River Road just outside Derby, this is the cultural centre for the Worrorra, Ngarinyin and Wunambal Gambera peoples — custodians of the Wandjina, the striking ancestral figures that recur in Kimberley rock art and painting. Under one distinctive roof it holds a museum, a gallery and a shop, runs tours and workshops, and each July stages the Mowanjum Festival. Unlike the region's remote community centres, it sits within easy reach of Derby, which makes it one of the more accessible windows into Kimberley Aboriginal culture.
