Kaltukatjara ArtCentre

ALICE SPRINGS & RED CENTRE, NT

Two community-owned Aboriginal art centres on the Northern Territory–Western Australia border, linked by family and shared Country. Tjarlirli at Tjukurla opened in 2006; Kaltukatjara, at Docker River, followed in 2016 under Tjarlirli's management — making it one of the few Indigenous art centres governed across a state line. Together they represent around 100 Ngaanyatjarra and Pitjantjatjara painters whose work traces to the Western Desert movement that began when families returned from Papunya and Kintore to their ancestral lands. A board of six artist-directors runs both. Indigenous Art Code member.
