One of the designated fossicking areas of the Central Queensland gemfields, reached off the Capricorn Highway by the sealed Sapphire road and then an unsealed track along Retreat Creek. Its popularity comes from the shallow wash, with diggings only a few hundred millimetres deep, and its closeness to Sapphire township. The Mount Clifford workings here have yielded sapphires in greens, yellows and blues. The ground is set aside for fossickers, with camping by permit but no facilities and water carried in from Sapphire.
