Wayne Saunders made his first knife at high school from an old file, and got hooked on blacksmithing while travelling the Mid North Coast years later. He has forged full-time since 2003, holds a blacksmith's trade qualification, and is a full member of the Australian Knifemakers Guild. From his Wauchope forge he makes knives, axes, tools, jewellery and decorative ironwork by hand, and teaches it too: small multi-day courses in blacksmithing, knifemaking and Damascus, one or two at a time.
