PORT MACQUARIE & HASTINGS, LAURIETON, NEW SOUTH WALES

Port Macquarie & Hastings, Laurieton, New South WalesGet Directions

The Laurieton School of Arts opened in 1911, a Federation timber hall with Dutch gables and a glass-skylit auditorium that the local paper called palatial — the finest north of Newcastle. It's State Heritage listed and remarkably intact, and the historical society runs its museum inside it. The collection follows what built the Camden Haven: timber-getting, fishing, farming, and a deep archive of original photographs. They publish their own local histories. Open six days, three dollars.
