Kersbrook CherryFarm

阿德莱德丘陵, SA

Twenty minutes out of Adelaide, the road climbs into the Adelaide Hills and the air cools, and somewhere past Kersbrook the orchard rows begin — this is cherry country, and for a short window each summer, Kersbrook Cherry Farm opens its trees to anyone willing to do the picking themselves. The season is a brief one, running from mid-November to late December and shifting slightly with the weather each year, which lends the whole exercise a certain urgency: this is fruit picked at its ripest, not held in cool storage, not shipped in from elsewhere, but taken warm off the branch on the day you arrive.

The farm is family-owned, and it shows in the unhurried, low-key way the place runs — book a pick-your-own entry ahead of time, then wander the rows at your own pace, filling a basket with cherries that never had to travel further than your hand. It's the kind of outing that rewards no particular skill beyond patience and a willingness to reach a little higher for the good ones, and it suits a mixed crowd well: a family afternoon, a couple wanting to get out of the city, or a solo visitor happy to lose an hour among the trees in the quiet of the Hills. Afterwards, there's homemade cherry ice cream to make sense of the heat, a fitting reward for the work of picking under a summer sun.

For those who miss the window, or who simply want more than a basket can hold, the farm also sells jam-ready frozen pitted cherries and offers door-to-door delivery, extending the season a little further into the year. But the real drawcard remains the orchard itself — a modest, working patch of the Adelaide Hills where the harvest is still done by hand, and where the distance between tree and table is about as short as it gets.
