A splash of colour on First Avenue, this compact taqueria has been feeding Sawtell its tacos, burritos and margaritas for years now, the sort of independent local fixture a beach town quietly relies on. The kitchen keeps to the honest end of Mexican, soft tacos, loaded burritos, a bit of heat and plenty of lime, with dine-in tables and a brisk takeaway trade for those heading back to the sand. Evenings are the draw: the doors open through the afternoon and the kitchen keeps going into the night, several days a week, making it an easy, unfussy dinner when the strip's more formal rooms are booked out. There's a surcharge on Sundays and public holidays, as the menu is upfront about. Expect a relaxed, family-friendly room rather than anything polished, which is rather the point.
