Ian Ferrier runs guided day trips out of Launceston into two of Tasmania's most distinctive riding grounds: a 44-kilometre descent from Blue Tier down to Swimcart Beach on the Bay of Fires coast, and cross-country loops through the St Helens trail network reached via the Fingal Valley. Both trips leave Launceston at 7.30am and include a guide, hardtail hire bike, transport and lunch, with dual-suspension bikes available for an add-on fee, and vehicle support on the St Helens day means tired riders can be picked up rather than pushing through. The Blue Tier run is the more demanding of the two — a genuine point-to-point descent through tall forest to the coast — while the St Helens loops suit a broader range of fitness levels.
