Pink Lakes (Murray-SunsetNational Park)

米尔迪拉和玛丽谷地, LINGA, VICTORIA

Salt lakes turned rose-pink by carotene, a red pigment secreted by algae, in the south-eastern corner of Murray-Sunset National Park — one of the last remaining semi-arid regions in the world where the environment remains relatively untouched. The colour runs strongest in late summer. Commercial salt harvesting began here in 1916 and ceased in 1979; stockpiles and abandoned equipment from the industry still stand near the shores. Access is from the Mallee Highway about 60 kilometres west of Ouyen, then gravel road from Linga.
