The Millewa was opened for farming in the 1920s: 708 settlers, 600,000 acres, and 250mm of rain a year to work with. Since 1986 a volunteer committee at Meringur has been assembling what they left behind — more than fifty buildings and sites, alongside records of the district's schools, railway sidings and sheep stations. Ninety kilometres west of Mildura. Open sunrise to sunset, self-guided, entry by donation.
