Rock ClimbingGuides Tasmania

朗塞斯顿和塔玛谷, TAS

Ian Ferrier has guided climbers around Tasmania since 1987, working for years alongside Bob McMahon, the state's only climbing guide for decades. When McMahon died, his former clients turned to Ferrier, and he opened Rock Climbing Guides Tasmania from Launceston in May 2013 to keep the service going. He takes beginners into Cataract Gorge and Hillwood, close to town, and leads committed climbers onto Ben Lomond, the Freycinet sea cliffs, the Organ Pipes on Mount Wellington, the Rysavy Ridge on Mount Roland, and the Tasman Peninsula, home of the Totem Pole. Ferrier holds Multi Pitch Guide certification through the Tasmanian Climbing Instructors Association, and has climbed in Canada, Alaska, Africa, New Zealand and Yosemite on top of decades in Tasmania. The business runs school outdoor-education programs alongside guided days for visiting climbers, from first-timers off an indoor wall to experienced parties after one specific route. It remains, as it was under McMahon, the only dedicated climbing guiding service based in Tasmania — one guide, one succession, one state.
