Tsuyoshi and Alix Yumita opened Wasai in 2007, when Adelaide's Japanese restaurants could be counted on one hand, and the menu is still old school by design — a bit of everything, from tempura to hotpots. The torched aburi salmon roll was theirs first in Adelaide; the nasu dengaku arrives as half an eggplant, scored, deep-fried and slicked with sweet miso. Dinner only, Tuesday to Saturday, in a Field Street side spot the regulars keep to themselves.
