Jim Deering runs Wilkur Forge from a purpose-built shop near Leongatha, in Victoria's south-east, where open-hearth coke forges, anvils and mechanical and pneumatic hammers fill a working blacksmith's floor. Trade-qualified in fabrication and blacksmithing, he forges knives and tools on commission and teaches the craft through structured courses that run from a one-day introduction up to advanced levels. It is a hands-on forge built as much for the making as for passing the skills on.
