Olive Pink Botanic Garden

Olive Pink spent years living among the spinifex and mulga she planted here, alongside Warlpiri man Johnny Jambijimba Yannarilyi, on land she petitioned to lease in 1956. The result: 16 hectares, 600-plus arid-zone species, and a registered Arrernte sacred site, Tharrarletneme, with views across the MacDonnell Ranges. The garden outlasted its founder by half a century. It shows.
East Coast Heritage Museum

Located on the main street corner of Franklin and Noyes Streets, this heritage museum celebrates East Coast community history through diverse collections including the Morris General Store exhibition, military uniforms, and artifacts from local figures like Louisa Anne Meredith. Entry is by donation and the museum operates as part of the Glamorgan Spring Bay Council.

Samford District Historical Museum
21 Station Street, Samford
On the first Sunday of each month, a blacksmith lights the forge at this open-air village museum half an hour from Brisbane. Wander through a slab-walled 1872 schoolhouse, the original Grovely Railway Station housing a wartime exhibit, and a working telephone collection where handsets across the room still connect. Volunteers run copper workshops and staff the research room. Entry is $6.
Kyneton Museum

On historic Piper Street, this collection occupies a former Bank of New South Wales branch built in 1856. The permanent holdings run to horse carriages, farming equipment and other objects from the district's past, while changing exhibitions rotate through the building. Run by Macedon Ranges Shire Council, it reads as both a local museum and a piece of Kyneton's built heritage.
Ian Potter Museum of Art

The Ian Potter Museum of Art is the University of Melbourne's principal art museum on the Parkville campus, housed in a 1998 award-winning building designed by Nonda Katsalidis. Custodian of Australia's largest university art collection with over 18,000 works spanning classical antiquities to contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, the museum reopened in 2025 with the landmark exhibition spanning 65,000 years of Australian art history.
Werribee Park Mansion

Werribee Park Mansion is a grand 60-room Italianate estate built between 1874 and 1877 by Scottish pastoralists Thomas and Andrew Chirnside from their wool fortune. Victoria's only major freestone mansion features ornamental carvings, heritage gardens designed by Royal Botanic Gardens curator William Guilfoyle, a heritage orchard dating to the 1870s, and the Victoria State Rose Garden, all set within a sweeping parkland 35 kilometres west of Melbourne.
Manly Art Gallery & Museum

On Manly Cove, this council-run gallery serves as the visual arts centre for Sydney's Northern Beaches. Its collection has been building for a century, shown alongside a rotating exhibition program and a schedule of workshops, talks and events. The Collective for Environmental Art & Design runs interdisciplinary work here, and the venue can be hired for events.
Brambuk National Park & Cultural Centre

Begun in 1989 to acknowledge and share the cultures of the Jadawadjali and Djab Wurrung Peoples, this centre 2km south of Halls Gap combines a National Park Information Centre with a gift shop stocking local Indigenous products and park maps. Self-guided, wheelchair-friendly walks cross the Brambuk wetlands and native gardens. The award-winning Cultural Centre building is closed for upgrades between 2022 and 2026.
Bowen Historical Museum
22 Gordon Street, Bowen QLD 4805

Established in 1963, this museum on Gordon Street traces the history of Bowen, the first township settled north of Rockhampton in 1861. Moss Vale Cottage, built in 1872 and relocated here in 1972, holds pioneer furniture, tools and butter-making equipment. Other displays cover indigenous artefacts, early printing presses, local wartime service records and industries including saltworks, meatworks and the copper refinery. Every Bowen newspaper since 1864 is held digitally for research.
Beaudesert Historical Society Museum
44 William Street, Beaudesert QLD 4285

Run by the Historical Society of Beaudesert, this museum on Brisbane Street preserves the stories of the area from the Moreton Bay settlement onwards. The grounds hold a range of displays alongside a research collection of manuscripts, printed materials, photographs and maps. Westwood Cottage sits within the site, and the museum opens seven days a week from 10am to 2pm.
