Set into the rock platform below the cliffs at Bermagui on the far south coast, the Blue Pool is an ocean rock pool of extraordinary colour, refilled by the swell that washes over its outer edge. Reached by a steep stair down the cliff, it hangs between the sandstone and the open sea, with whales passing offshore in season and the surf breaking just beyond the wall. It is a spectacular place to swim, exposed to the ocean's mood and framed by the wild coast. Best on a calm day at higher tide, when the water is clear and the setting sublime.
