Willow Springs Station sits deep in the Flinders Ranges, far enough from any town that the Milky Way casts a shadow on a clear night. Physicist and astronomer Karl Grice runs sessions here through 10-inch reflecting telescopes, working through the visible planets, globular clusters and nebulae while talking through both the international constellations and the sky stories of the Ranges' traditional owners. Groups are kept small and the guidance is personal rather than scripted — Grice adjusts each session to what's actually up that night and what the group wants to look at longer. Sessions run through the cooler months, with commemorative photos available against the night sky as a keepsake. It's one of the more accessible ways to get a proper dark-sky experience in South Australia without organising a remote camping trip — just a drive into the station and a couple of hours under genuinely unpolluted stars.
