Malcolm Drinkwater began collecting gold rush material in 1980, trading under a shop named after his own book, and took thirty-two years to finish the place — he called it done in 2012. Over 10,000 artefacts: stamper batteries, steam engines, Chinese gold scales, a blacksmith's shop, a case of uranium glass. Then 175 metres of underground mine, the Son of Hope, cut for visitors rather than for ore. He wrote the books at the counter too.
