A botanic garden given over entirely to Australia's arid-zone flora, on the northern edge of Port Augusta where the Stuart Highway heads for the Flinders. Paths thread the AridSmart water-wise display gardens and a children's garden out to red-cliff lookouts over the head of Spencer Gulf, a noted birdwatching spot. The Sturt Desert Pea flowers here; the café cooks with native ingredients; the nursery sells the drought-hardy plants you've just walked through. Free, and open dawn to sunset.
