Bryan Nicholson planted the first Shiraz vines here in 1995 as a weekend hobby. His wife Eleana Anderson — an oenology graduate with vintages in Germany and the US behind her — took over winemaking when production became serious. The Alpine Valleys vineyard is dry-grown; output is small. The Tempranillo, planted from 2002, has built a quiet reputation as a benchmark for the variety in Australia.
