Ex-brewer Campbell Hedley and wine marketer David Cumming opened the first Lane Cellars in 2018, building a list around producers from the regions that ring Albury: Rutherglen fortifieds, Beechworth chardonnay, Tumbarumba pinot, ciders from the Alpine region. The Olive Street store, their second, occupies the former Abikhair Emporium and hosts regular 'Meet your Maker' tastings where winemakers pour their own bottles across the counter. The range runs from serious regional reds to easier local beers and ciders, chosen by staff who talk through provenance rather than push volume. In a border town more used to national liquor chains, it gives Riverina and alpine producers a proper shopfront close to home. Open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 6pm, and Sunday until 3pm — worth a stop before heading into the high country or out along the Rutherglen wine roads.
