Three kilometres of open beach backed by sand dunes and coastal heath run south from Cape Byron in this park co-managed by NPWS and the Bundjalung of Byron Bay People (Arakwal), under an agreement struck with the traditional owners in 2001. Tallow Beach is the centrepiece, drawing swimmers, surfers, anglers and birdwatchers, with whales passing offshore in season and tandem hang-gliders overhead. The park sits at the edge of Byron Bay township, near the Cape Byron Lighthouse.
