Port Augusta sits at the head of Spencer Gulf, the last real town before the Flinders Ranges and the outback proper, and its most considered cafe works hard against that frontier setting. Beans come direct from Toby's Estate, pulled with enough care to earn a reputation as the best coffee in town, and the kitchen leans on seasonal, locally sourced produce for its breakfasts, light lunches and house-made cakes. A vine-shaded courtyard on Loudon Road, in Port Augusta West, makes a welcome retreat from the highway heat. Open seven days, it draws a steady mix of locals and travellers pausing before the long drives north and west.
