Bendemeer once ran to five pubs — the first, in 1845, was called Help Me Through Life. The 1864 hotel above the Macdonald River claims another first: the earliest beer garden outside the metropolitan area, laid out in 1946 and still there. Twelve rooms, seven with ensuites, electric blankets on every bed, and lockable garages free for motorcycle groups. Leanne and Mark Summers took the freehold in 2021 and run it with a staff of twenty locals. Friday night is the meat raffle.
