George Patterson raised the walls out of mud and ash in 1882, no foundations, the timber framing pulled away once it cured, and set up as builder, contractor and undertaker while his wife Catherine ran a general store at the front. The Pattersons buried Boorowa from here until 1959, using horse-drawn hearses. A beekeeper had it next. Believed to be the last commercial pise building still in use in Australia.
