A tiny, pared-back snack house on the southern end of King Street, this Newtown cafe is entirely vegan and free of gluten, egg and dairy — a rare combination executed without any sense of deprivation. The draw is twofold: sourdough doughnuts fried fresh through the week in flavours from cinnamon to salted caramel and custard, and, on weekends, plant-based sushi rolled to order. A Japanese leaning runs through both, the doughnuts built on a fermented, gluten-free dough that gives them an unusual chew. There are only a handful of seats, so much of the trade is takeaway, eaten on the stroll down King Street. It keeps limited hours and closes Mondays. Small in scale and specific in focus, it has quietly become one of the inner west's most distinctive vegan addresses.
