In 1960 the Japanese government brought its war dead from around Australia to be reburied at Cowra, a decision that grew out of the prisoner of war camp here and began the town's relationship with Japan. The garden came of that. Three kilometres of path cross 12.5 acres laid out as a strolling garden, running from mountains and waterfalls down through lakes and river to the ocean, past a tea house and an Edo cottage.
