Ericvale Roses

朗塞斯顿和塔玛谷, TAS

Above the South Esk River south of Launceston, Tim and Julie Barbour have spent twenty-four years building a garden around roses and clipped topiary, said to be Tasmania's largest display of the latter. Many of the roses on show are propagated for sale in the family's small on-site nursery, so a wander through the beds can end with cuttings going home in the boot. The same property is home to the Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company, the family's jam, chutney and mustard business, made a few steps from the rose beds and sold alongside them. Visitors are welcome to call in and wander the grounds at any time, with the roses and topiary at their best in November; groups of ten or more can book ahead for a Devonshire tea of scones and house-made jam. It is an unhurried, family-run stop on the road between Launceston and the Midlands, better suited to a slow walk than a quick photo.
