Fook Shing was the Chinese detective the Victoria Police sent to the goldfields whenever something involving Chinese miners needed sorting out, and he stayed in this pub while he worked the district. The restaurant that carries his name now cooks modern south-east Asian in the same gold rush building, northern Thai jungle curry of barramundi over fire, and keeps a small parlour bar for anyone who only wants a drink.
