The smaller and more richly decorated of the Mole Creek show caves, King Solomons is a compact wonder - a single sinuous passage packed wall to wall with calcite. Guides pick out shawls, straws and flowstone stained in ambers and creams by mineral-laden water, the formations crowding so close the cave feels jewelled. Where Marakoopa is grand and streaming, King Solomons is intimate and glittering, an easy introduction to the underground world of the Great Western Tiers. The two caves make a natural pair on a day out from Deloraine or Devonport.
