Central Ballarat's lake, spread beside the Ballarat Botanical Gardens and Victoria Park, with the six-kilometre Steve Moneghetti Track running the full shoreline. Its 2,000-metre rowing course hosted the rowing events of the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games and remains a venue for school, club and high-level rowing and sailing; fishing is popular from the banks. Barbecues, playgrounds, public toilets and a string of foreshore restaurants sit around the edge, and the flat loop serves as the city's default walk, run and ride.
