Off-grid by design: solar panels power the equivalent of eight households, rainwater feeds the taps, and a reed-bed system handles all waste. Classes and appointments only for now, though public access to the sculpture grounds is planned. The infrastructure is the argument — art made somewhere that takes its own footprint seriously.
Zig Zag Railway Heritage Centre

Volunteers began relaying track here in the early 1970s, reopening the original 1869 Western Railway formation — the route that once hauled produce from the western plains to Sydney — as a working heritage line. After bushfires, floods, and a 2012 closure, the co-op has restored all 11 kilometres of track plus its diesel-hydraulic and steam fleet. The trains still run out of Clarence.

Working from a Sydney CBD studio rather than a shopfront, Object Maker makes jewellery in 18ct gold and sterling silver across three distinct lines: nature-derived "Sticks and Stones" pieces set with Australian sapphires and diamonds, mythology-drawn "Vanity and Vice" work, and custom commissions. Wedding and engagement rings are designed in collaboration with clients on-site.

The former home and studio of modernist sculptors Gerald and Margo Lewers sits in heritage gardens on the Nepean River's western bank — a setting that does more work than most gallery fitouts. Over 2,500 works across paintings, sculpture and photography are spread through Lewers House, Ancher House and the grounds. Free admission throughout.
