Matt Farrah opened his first liquor shop, Campbell Liquor Discounts, in Canberra in 1992, and has spent the three decades since across retail, wholesale, vineyard management and winemaking, including developing a vineyard in New Zealand's Marlborough region. That grounding shows in this 2,400-square-metre warehouse in Fyshwick, which works directly with 150 to 200 boutique Australian winemakers and a handful of small importers, cutting out the usual layers of distribution. Every label is said to pass an internal quality panel before it reaches the floor, and the same network supplies wine lists at restaurants across Canberra. It reads as a working warehouse rather than a boutique bottle shop, stacked with pallets more than polished display, but that is the point: a producer-first operation in an industrial pocket of the capital, giving small winemakers shelf space they would rarely get through the majors. Open seven days, with Saturday trade starting an hour earlier than the rest of the week.
