Tanbella Orchard

CANBERRA DISTRICT, PIALLIGO, AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL TERRITORY

Canberra District, Pialligo, Australian Capital TerritoryGet Directions

Canberra's only self-pick orchard sits on Beltana Road in Pialligo, planted out from the 1970s with a collection that now runs past a hundred apple varieties, from familiar Pink Ladies to rarer heritage and international types such as Cox's Pippin and Belle de Boskoop, alongside peaches, pears, nashi and nectarines. The season runs from late January to May, with the orchard open on weekends and picking charged by the kilo after an entry fee covers a family or small group. It changed hands in 2024 after its previous owner ran it for sixteen years, and continues to trade under the same name, with Instagram serving as the main source for weekly opening hours as different varieties come into season. For a city without much working agricultural land inside its borders, it's a genuine anomaly: an orchard a short drive from Parliament House where visitors still fill their own bucket of fruit rather than buying it boxed.
