A two-hectare garden high in the Dandenongs at Kalorama, planted since 1965 with more than 1,400 species of Australian natives and kept as one of the country's few public gardens given wholly to indigenous flora. A well-stocked nursery sells natives to take home, with staff on hand to match plant to spot. Entry is free, the paths are accessible, and there's a community room and long views. Open Tuesday to Sunday.
