Built in 1900 to carry timber, livestock and potatoes through the Dandenong Ranges, Puffing Billy runs 25 kilometres of narrow-gauge track between Belgrave and Gembrook on original mountain line. More than 300 volunteers keep it moving every day but Christmas. Ride in open-sided carriages across timber trestle bridges, fern gullies pressing in close, Mountain Ash overhead.
