Twenty years after last pouring a drink, the front bar of Fremantle's P&O Hotel — a two-storey Federation Filigree building on High Street dating to 1901 — reopened in November 2023 as Ode to Sirens, a listening bar built around analogue sound. Perth hospitality figure Daniel Goodsell, whose other rooms include Bread in Common and Il Lido, fitted the space with hi-fi equipment that plays only vinyl, reel-to-reel and tape, no streaming. Walls of record storage and album art line the room, and a colourful courtyard adds overflow seating. The drinks list runs from Swan Draft and craft cans to natural wines and classic cocktails, alongside Greek-centric small plates — warm pita with hommus, smoked eggplant and tahini, fried halloumi, lamb gyros — built for grazing rather than a sit-down meal. It occupies a heritage-listed building now being restored back into a hotel, with the bar carrying the only public trade in the meantime. Open Monday to Thursday from 4pm and Friday to Sunday from midday, in Fremantle's West End.
